Yu Dong - Head Coach

Yu holds a Swimming Australia Silver Coaching licence in addition to tertiary qualifications in Sports Coaching, Teaching and Sports Management from Chinese and Australian universities, as well as a Masters of Teaching in Personal Development, Health and Physical Education.

 He has coached many state and national level swimmers and previously worked as a coach at the Ivanhoe Neons Swimming Club and Bankstown Sports Swimming Club in NSW. Yu has international coaching experience in China and Singapore. Before moving to Australia Yu coached at the Shanghai Swim Team, where his duties included correcting the technique of Liu Zi Gee, the gold medallist in the 200m butterfly at the Beijing Olympic Games.

Yu was a competitive swimmer and swam for the Shanghai State Team in China where he achieved:

  • 1994-95: State Champion in 200FLY & Age National Bronze medalist 

  • 95-96: State Champion in 200BRS & Age National finalist 

  • 96-97: State Champion in 200FLY & Age National silver medalist 

  • 97-98: State Champion in 200FLY & Age National silver medalist 

  • 98-99: State Champion in 200FLY & Age National silver medalist 

  • 99-01: Open National 200FLY 4th place 

  • 01-02: Open National 200FLY 4th place

Tom Rayner - Assistant Coach

Tom has been at Ivanhoe Aqua Power since 2009. In addition to being a Swimming Australia Bronze licence coach, he is an AustSwim accredited swim teacher and is also currently studying Sport and Exercise Science at Victoria University. He’s a current club captain and still competes at state and university levels in breaststroke. He’s very passionate and believes strongly that with the right mentality and attitude, any swimmer can be successful. Tom coaches Junior Squad and aims to build a hardworking, competitive and enjoyable atmosphere as well as providing the skills required at higher squad levels.
